From TV Tome:
As we all know, Shonen Jump will soon be skipping ahead to the Memories saga and the rest of the manga series will be released in the form of Graphic Novel in one month increments. Well, there's been no statement of this from Viz yet, so it's not "official", but according to the Barns and Noble website, the new novels being released starting January/February will be treated as a completely different series under the name of "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist" and will begin with Volume 1 as opposed to just continuing the series the way it was ment to be and continue on by calling it Volume 8. This is a disappointment for most fans, who like to think of the manga series as one whole series as opposed to the anime which was split into 2 series. Now that this is happening and the manga is split in the exact same spot the anime was, it's like it's happening all over again. As I said, it's not completely official yet, so hopefully Viz will come to their senses before they release it.

Also, if you look at it from Viz's point of view- they release the manga twice as fast this way, which means they make money twice as fast. Also, fans that only subscribed to Shonen JUMP for Yu Gi Oh! will now have to also go out and buy the novels.
That's capitalism for you.
Yu Gi Oh! Duelist is not a bad name at all- considering the original series is called Yu Gi Oh!: Duel Monsters.

Considering that volume 7 has the start of DK they would have to split off the last chapter of v 7 and put it in vol8. This is highly unlikely.
ALso, if you'll note the desciption:
"Yu-Gi-Oh! Volume 1: Duelist
FROM THE PUBLISHER
When Yugi beat Kaiba at a card game, little did he know the consequences: a trip through Kaiba's "Death T" — a theme park of death — and a series of evil spells against Yugi's family. It doesn't help that Kaiba's little brother also has a score to settle. "
And if they do split it, yeah, it'll suck, but other manga have had similar treatment when brougth to the US. Card Captor Sakura for one example, was split into two parts. Considering that most people thinkg of Yuugiou as what the anime covers and the tone and pase changes significantly once Pegasus shows up, it is a logical desision. It's not making it a diffrent series compleatly anymore then the dub tried to say 'Enter the Shadow Realm' or 'Wakignthe Dragons' is a diffrent series. It's a diffrent season.
And the anime was not split into to series. There was first series and then later, when the manga started getting really popular, there was 2nd series, which didn't want to repeat what had already been animated when it was the DUel Monsters and on stories that were making Yuugiou popular.
It's not the end of teh world. It's not even a big deal. It's a minor annoyance. Deal.

*shrugs*
I look at it this way: I've been buying the GNs anyway, and would rather not have most of the manga spoiled for myself by reading the end before the middle, so as soon as the first Faust battle is finished in Shaman King, I'll stop buying SJ. Saves me five bucks a month, anyway :3

But this means the manga will *only* be available in the reduced-size format. And my eyes aren't what they used to be, so a lot of the smaller detail is simply smeary little blurs as far as I'm concerned when it's presented in the smaller format. Grr.

Of course, it's cheaper to publish in the smaller format, but it is hard on older eyes!
